Pricing & Consultations
How much does baby proofing cost in Los Angeles?
The cost of baby proofing a home in Los Angeles typically ranges from $500 to over $2,000, depending on the size of your home, the number of safety features needed, and the complexity of installation. At BrightSteps, we offer personalized baby proofing services designed to meet your family’s unique needs and your home’s layout, whether you’re securing a condo in Santa Monica or a mansion in the Trousdale Estates.
Most families spend from $800 to over $1,800 for a typical setup, which may include:
- Wall-mounted baby safety gates
- Cabinet and drawer latches
- Furniture anchoring
- Electrical outlet covers
- Plexiglass rail or balcony barriers
- Corner and edge guards
We always begin with a professional safety consultation where we walk through your home, identify hazards, and give you a detailed breakdown of recommended safety improvements and costs.
Unlike flat-rate baby proofing kits, our pricing is customized to your home and your child’s stage of development. We never use pressure-mounted gates and focus only on high-quality, professionally installed safety solutions.
If you’d like to get a better idea of your home’s baby proofing cost, book a consultation and we’ll help you plan your setup — no pressure, just honest, expert guidance.
What is included in the consultation process?
At BrightSteps, our baby proofing consultation process in Los Angeles and surrounding areas is designed to give you clarity, confidence, and a customized safety plan tailored to your home and your child’s stage of development.
When you schedule your consultation, our trained baby proofing specialist will visit your home to perform a comprehensive safety assessment. We’ll walk through every room, including staircases, kitchens, bathrooms, nurseries, and living areas to identify hazards and make personalized recommendations based on your home’s layout and your concerns.
During your walkthrough, we will:
- Identify common safety hazards like unsecured furniture, sharp edges, reachable outlets, or unprotected stairways etc
- Assess which safety products (like wall-mounted baby gates, furniture anchors, cabinet locks, and plexiglass railings) would be most effective
- Answer any questions about materials, durability, and maintenance
Our walkthroughs typically take 30–60 minutes, depending on the size of your home.
After the visit, you’ll receive a detailed quote outlining what’s recommended, why, and how much each item or installation will cost. You can choose to move forward with all, some, or none of the recommendations — no pressure.
To schedule your consultation or learn more, visit our Services page or contact us directly to see if you qualify for a free home walkthrough in your area.
Is the walkthrough really free?
At BrightSteps Baby Proofing, we offer personalized in-home safety consultations for families across Los Angeles. However, whether the consultation is free or paid depends on where you’re located:
- Immediate Service Area:
We charge a $120 consultation fee, but if you move forward with the job, that full amount is credited toward your total baby proofing cost. - Outer Service Area:
Consultations are also $120, but this fee does not get credited toward the final job total due to extended travel time and logistics.
This policy helps us keep our pricing fair and our service consistent while still offering expert in-home safety walkthroughs throughout LA.
Note: A travel fee may be added at our discretion depending on your exact location.
If you’re unsure which area you fall under, feel free to contact us, we’re happy to clarify or help you book your consultation.
Installation & Materials
How long does installation take?
The time it takes to complete a professional baby proofing installation depends on the size of your home, the number of safety products installed, and how complex the setup is. Most BrightSteps baby proofing installations in Los Angeles take between 1 to 4 hours, with larger or multi-level homes occasionally taking longer.
Here’s what can affect installation time:
- Number of rooms being childproofed (nursery, kitchen, stairs, etc.)
- Installation of wall-mounted baby gates, plexiglass barriers, or anti-tip furniture anchors
- Material type (e.g., tile vs. drywall for anchoring)
- Custom fit needs for awkward layouts or older homes
We work efficiently while keeping safety and quality top of mind. Our team brings all necessary tools and products, so there’s no waiting or back-and-forth. Once your in-home consultation is complete, we’ll give you a personalized time estimate so you know what to expect.
Need your installation done quickly? We’ll always do our best to schedule your service promptly and accommodate your family’s timeline.

What kind of baby gates do you install?
At BrightSteps, we specialize in installing high-quality, wall-mounted baby gates that are secure, durable, and tailored to your home’s layout. We do not install pressure-mounted gates, as they can be unreliable and unsafe, especially on stairs or around elevated areas.
We provide expert hardware-mounted gate installation for:
- Staircases (top and bottom)
- Wide openings and irregular layouts
- Hallways and high-traffic zones
- Doorways near kitchens, bathrooms, or other hazardous spaces
Our team installs baby gates in homes throughout Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades, Brentwood, Marina del Rey, Beverly Hills, and surrounding neighborhoods. Every gate is:
- Installed directly into studs or solid walls for maximum safety
- Chosen based on your child’s stage and your home’s structure
- Sleek, neutral, and modern in design
During your in-home consultation, we’ll walk through your space and recommend the best baby gates for your needs — including custom solutions for tricky layouts.

General Safety Questions
When should I baby proof my home?
The best time to baby proof your home is before your child becomes mobile, typically around 6 to 8 months of age, when babies start to crawl. However, every child develops differently, so we recommend scheduling your baby proofing consultation as early as 4 to 6 months, especially if you’re located in a multi-level home or have hazards like stairs, sharp furniture edges, or unsecured cabinets.
By baby proofing early, you avoid the stress of scrambling once your little one is already exploring. At BrightSteps, we help families across Santa Monica, Brentwood, Westwood, Pacific Palisades, and greater Los Angeles create safe environments tailored to their child’s stage and home layout.
Some parents even choose to baby proof before their baby is born to have peace of mind from day one.
Pro tip: If you’re unsure whether it’s the right time to baby proof, schedule a consultation, we’ll walk you through a customized plan based on your home and your baby’s development.
What are the most dangerous areas in a home for babies?
While every home is unique, these are the five most common high-risk areas for babies and toddlers:
Stairways: Falls are one of the leading causes of injury in young children. We install secure, wall-mounted baby gates at the top and bottom of stairs to help prevent serious accidents.
Kitchens: Sharp utensils, hot surfaces, heavy appliances, and cleaning chemicals make the kitchen one of the most dangerous places for babies. Our services include cabinet locks, drawer latches, appliance guards, and entryway barriers.
Bathrooms: Water hazards, slippery floors, and access to medications or cleaning supplies make this another key danger zone. We install toilet locks, non-slip surfaces, and childproof door latches to help prevent injuries.
Furniture & TVs: Tip-over injuries are a hidden risk in many homes. We secure large furniture like dressers and bookshelves, and anchor TVs to prevent falling or pulling accidents.
Nursery: Though designed for safety, nurseries often have overlooked hazards. We anchor changing tables and dressers, install outlet covers, ensure crib zones are clear, and make sure that nothing dangerous is within reach of curious hands.
Our consultations are designed to assess these spaces — and more — based on your home’s unique layout and your child’s stage of mobility. Whether you’re in Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Brentwood, or West LA, we tailor our recommendations to your needs.

Is baby proofing necessary if I’m always supervising?
Even with the most attentive supervision, accidents can happen in seconds, especially once babies start crawling, climbing, and exploring independently. Baby proofing isn’t meant to replace active parenting, it’s designed to work with it by reducing everyday risks in your home environment.
Think of baby proofing as a second layer of protection. You might turn your back for a moment to answer the door, cook dinner, or grab your phone, and that’s often when accidents occur.
Common situations where supervision isn’t enough:
A baby pulls open a cabinet and finds cleaning supplies
A toddler climbs a dresser that isn’t anchored
A gate-less staircase becomes accessible in one blink
An outlet is within reach during playtime
At BrightSteps, we focus on proactive safety, anchoring furniture, installing secure gates, latching cabinets, and more, so your home is one step ahead of your child’s curiosity.
Whether you’re in a small Santa Monica apartment or a multi-story Brentwood home, our goal is to make your space safer, not restrictive, giving you peace of mind as your child grows.
Curious what risks might exist in your home? Schedule a consultation and we’ll help you see your space from a baby’s point of view.
Property & Support
Do you work with rental properties?
Yes, BrightSteps specializes in baby proofing both rental properties and owner-occupied homes throughout Los Angeles. We understand the unique challenges that come with living in apartments, condos, and leased homes, especially when it comes to avoiding permanent damage or violating lease agreements.
Our team uses a variety of non-invasive and removable solutions to protect your child without risking your security deposit. Depending on your lease terms and your landlord’s rules, we can:
Use removable adhesive latches instead of drilling
Install hardware-mounted baby gates with minimal, patchable holes
Offer plexiglass barriers for stairs or balconies without altering railings
Provide options for temporary furniture anchoring
We’ve helped families safely baby proof rentals in Santa Monica, Westwood, Culver City, Silver Lake, and beyond — and we’re always happy to work within your building’s restrictions.
If you’re renting and not sure what’s allowed, we can walk you through options during your consultation or help you discuss solutions with your landlord.
Can you provide ongoing support?
While we don’t offer formal maintenance plans, we’re always happy to answer questions or provide guidance if anything comes up after your installation. Ongoing inspection and upkeep of baby proofing products is the responsibility of the parent or caregiver.
